We recently had our holiday family portraits taken at Portrait Innovations. With the holiday season in full swing, we couldn’t wait to take our family photos and have our Christmas cards printed out to send to our friends and family. It’s so convenient that Portrait Innovations prints the Christmas cards right there in the studio while you wait! (Well, we went to eat dinner and came back and they were done!)
After celebrating Thanksgiving a few weeks ago, we went to get our Christmas tree the following day. The tree looked a little bare, and like it definitely needed some nice new ornaments. I decided to get crafty, and make a super cute Christmas ornament with one of the photos we had taken at our Portrait Innovations studio session.
I love how these homemade ornaments came out, and they weren’t too hard to make. If you would like to recreate these for your tree, here’s how:
You’ll need a wood slice (I actually got mine from the Christmas tree place; it was the stump that they cut off of our tree!) but you can also conveniently buy these in craft stores. You’ll also need a pen or pencil, one sheet of plain paper, scissors, some Mod Podge, a paintbrush, twine, and a photo screw hook.
First, you’ll trace the outline of your wood slice onto the plain sheet of paper. Then, use the scissors to cut that out.
Next, line up the paper on top of your Portrait Innovations holiday photo, and trace again over the portion of the photo you would like displayed on the ornament. Again, use the scissor to cut that piece of your photo out.
Now, you’ll use Mod Podge and apply a thin coat on the wood slice to attach your photo. You’ll want to let it dry for about 15-20 minutes minimum. After it’s dry, paint a thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the photo and let it dry again.
Once your ornament is dry, screw a photo hook into the wood slice. Hang it from some twine, and you’ve got yourself an adorable family Christmas ornament!
If you’d rather not take the crafty route, Portrait Innovations can make a beautiful photo ornament for you! They’re gorgeous, and no gluing is required. You can conveniently schedule your Portrait Innovations family photo session at a studio location near you!
